About Rath Yatra
The Rath Yatra, or Chariot Festival, is a grand and vibrant celebration held annually in Puri, Odisha, dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a form of Lord Krishna. This festival usually takes place in June or July, attracting millions of devotees and tourists from around the world. The highlight of the event features large, elaborately decorated chariots, each housing one of the three deities—Lord Jagannath, his sister Subhadra, and his brother Balabhadra—as they are pulled through the streets of Puri by eager devotees. The procession is filled with music, dance, and fervent prayers, symbolizing the journey of the deities to their garden abode, known as Gundicha Ghar. The Rath Yatra not only represents spiritual devotion but also fosters a sense of community and unity among participants, making it one of the most significant religious events in India.
Itinerary
Pickup from Bhubaneswar airport and Proceed to the Puri. En-route visit Dhauli (the peace pagoda), 108 Shivling temple, Lingaraj Temple, Chausath (64) Yogini temple then drive to Konark on marine drive, visit Chandrabhaga beach & Ramchandi temple. Then visit the famous Sun Temple called black Pagoda, The 12th century temple richly decorated with stone carving. In the evening, enjoy the light & sound show in Konark (at your own cost). After reaching Puri check into the hotel in the evening and enjoy at Puri beach. Overnight at Puri.
Today full day enjoy Rath Yatra in Puri. In the morning proceed to witness one of the grandest religious spectacles on the planet. RathYatra celebrates the Hindu belief that Lord Jagannath takes a yearly break in midsummer to retire to his Aunt’s house along with his sister Subhadra and elder brother Balabhadra. All three deities are brought back to the main street in Puri and loaded in their grand chariots and then the great procession proceeds towards Gundicha Temple where the lord enjoy vacation at his aunt’s house.
After morning breakfast, Depart for Satapada, Chilka. en- route visit Alarnath Temple after reaching Chilika lake Take a boat and meet the Irrawaddy Dolphins in nature and the Hradaya –SagarSangam or the sea mouth (the point where the lake meets the sea). Enjoy the day at Chilka Lake (India’s biggest inland lake spread over 1,100 square kilometers). Evening return to Puri. In the evening, enjoy and relax at golden beach, free time shopping at Puri local market(at your own cost). Overnight at Puri.
After breakfast check out, drive to Bhubaneswar and Pipli Village, local Bhubaneswar Rajarani temple, Mukteshwar temple, Parshu Rameshwaram Temple, Khandagiri, Udaygirijain caves, Nandankanan Zoo (This zoo is famous for variety wild life sanctuary & also famous for white Tiger & Lion Safari (Closed On Monday), Tribal museum (Closed On Monday) then free time for shopping. overnight at Bhubaneswar.
After breakfast check out from the hotel then visit Ekamrahaat then transfer to the airport/railway station to catch the flight/ train for onward Journey with a bag full of memories.
